5 The microorganisms present on a toothbrush
Various researches have revealed the overwhelming number of microorganisms present on a toothbrush. Bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans, Prevotella, Staphylococcus aureus, Lactobacillus, Pseudomonas, and Escherichia coli are the commonest among them. Moreover, a pathogenic fungus called Candida albicans and viruses such as Herpes simplex one and Human papillomavirus were also found in some researches. These microbes are responsible for hazardous diseases like cervical cancer, gastrointestinal diseases, gingivitis, pharyngitis, candidiasis, laryngitis, tooth decay, as well as esophageal and oral cancers.
