8 Diamonds that fetched the most expensive price
“Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” and it’s pretty safe and easy to know why.
Diamonds are shiny and expensive and they literally last forever and they are unquestionably spectacular. But you might want to know how diamonds are made?
Diamonds crystallize when they are under enormously high pressures and are thus shaped deep inside Earth’s crust, usually more than 150km deep. The only reason for their enormous popularity is that they are extremely rare and the rarer they are, the more expensive they get.
Also due to high demand, their cost is always on the high side and to prove this, we bring to you 8 of the most expensive diamonds ever sold.
1 The Archduke Joseph – $21.5 Million
The Archduke Joseph clocked in at 76-carats and the D-colour Internally Flawless diamond was auctioned for a price of $21.5 million at Christie’s Geneva Magnificent Jewels auction in November 2012.
The diamond was initially discovered in the Golconda region of India, which was the sole diamond supplying mine for the whole world until 1896. The earlier owner of the diamond, Alfredo J. Molina, hwo is the CEO of Black, Starr & Frost jewellers commented on the diamond that, “I am thrilled but not surprised that the Archduke Joseph Diamond should have fetched such a high price. I was blessed to be the Archduke’s guardian and champion for the past 13 years, and indeed it has become part of my identity”.
