The New Hottest property, our Sun
Until recently our beloved planet Earth was the only place where the market for real estate existed. But things seem to be changing now as the market is now expanding out to Solar system and now land on Sun is also for sale. It may sound weird, but that’s exactly what a woman tried to do by selling plots on Sun.
You won’t believe
Sometimes people do things we wonder how that even got into their minds. Earlier in 2010 a Spanish woman (age 54) Maria Angeles Duran believed and openly declared she owns the Sun. She even intended to charge the beneficiaries of Sun-like the Solar Energy users. And, believe it or not, she even made that happen and the Spanish court recognized her claims. She even registered the star in her name at one of the notary offices in Spain. That’s another matter that no Solar panel user was actually sent invoices. Farmers were lucky they were excluded as their crops also utilize quite a lot of the solar energy. When she laid her claim to the sun she said “There was no snag, I backed my claim legally, I am not stupid, I know the law”
Everything is possible
Maria let go of the charges she intended to charge to users, but she didn’t let go her planet like that. Later on, she tried to take her entrepreneurial ambition a step further and started to sell plots on Sun at eBay. However, things didn’t turn out as she expected and her account got suspended by the online auction site. She priced the land well at Euro 1 per square meter, but her business model was not quite sustainable.
The Spanish court always realized her dreams and entrepreneurial abilities. A Madrid’s magistrate court declared that she has all the right to take eBay to courts and sue the company.
Own a planet, You also can
Now coming to what makes her believe she owns the Sun. According to her, she found and exploited a loophole in the so-called “Outer Space-Treaty”. The treaty states no country can claim sovereignty over celestial bodies like the Sun. However, she (and other entrepreneurs like her) is excluded from the treaty as individuals can claim their right to own the stars and planets.
Things might have been much better if someone just told her life cannot exist there. Let alone the Sun, we cannot even survive in the outer space as radiation levels, temperature and pressure are simply unbearable for humans. She, however, thinks these scientific facts hold no ground and claims she already has 600 orders from her valued customers worth Euro 1,200 before her business page got closed by eBay.
She is now in a process of claiming Euro 10,000 from the company to recover her direct and indirect losses she suffered. Her business also collapsed because of that and she also doesn’t seem to have another entrepreneur idea for now. She has already filed a lawsuit against eBay and a trial is expected soon to take place.
