While most of the world was celebrating the start of a New Year Australia was being ravaged by wild bushfires that began in 2019 December. This was a regular event that happened annually but due to the worsening weather conditions across the globe, this times bushfires took a turn for the worst.

An estimated 8.4 million hectares have already been burnt down and 2,500 buildings including over 1,900 houses have been destroyed. As of January 5th, a total of 25 lives have been claimed by the fires and it is estimated that a billion animal lives will have been lost by the time it comes under control.
