1 Tsunami approaching Miyako Japan in March 2011
This was one of the most heart-wrenching photos of 2011 as thousands around the world watched the terrible tsunami create havoc in Japan in March 2011 the result of a 9.1 magnitude earthquake. This particular photo shows a panoramic view of the treacherous tsunami approaching Miyako, Japan where the waves were almost 30 feet. The photo was taken by photographer Mainichi Shimbun for Reuters.

2Earthquake victim Port Au Prince Haiti
This is Cindy Tersme screaming in anguish in the ground after she found the lifeless body of her 14-year-old brother buried under rubble of Ecole St Gerard School after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Port AU Prince Haiti in 2010. Almost 300,000 lost their lives. The picture taken by photographer Carol Guzy won a Pulitzer Prize in 2011.
